Wesley Laird, Past President of the Alabama trial lawyer organization, ALAJ, opened the firm in Opp in 1987.  David Baker, from Birmingham, joined the firm in 1992 and Thomas A.  Blackstock, Jr. (Andy), a farmer’s son from Opp, joined in 1996.  In 2000, the current firm of Laird, Baker & Blackstock was formed.  Together, the three partners have over 85 years in broad experience in handling legal matters.  

The three lawyers have worked together in class actions and multi-district litigation to achieve results for their clients, including litigating as class counsel for the Plaintiffs in a Covington County case representing all city schools in Alabama that ended with a $41 million settlement that continues to benefit school children today.  And they have each been successful in personal representation.  
 

Wesley Laird is President of the Alabama Association for Justice (ALAJ). Wesley L. Laird, or Wes to most, has collected more than $100 million in verdicts and settlement, including trucking, oil rig, farm accident, and wrongful death litigation and has achieved multi-million dollar settlements in construction accident and product liability litigation and has 37 years of experience as an attorney. Wes Laird grew up on the family farm in Florala, Alabama and understands the value of hard work and has experience operating heavy equipment.    He has been recognized by the National Trial Lawyers as one of the Top 100 Attorneys in Civil Litigation.

David Baker, in addition to successfully representing injured clients in automobile accidents, has successfully defended numerous clients wrongfully accused of crimes.  David also regularly represents clients in both simple and complex divorce and child custody matters.  He has over 30 years of courtroom experience.

Thomas A. Blackstock, Jr., known as Andy to his friends, is another South Alabama farm boy.  Andy has done hundreds of real estate closings, assisted clients with complicated financial matters or debt reorganization, and has successfully represented farmers in crop insurance arbitration.  He has over 28 years of experience as an attorney. and is one of the few lawyers who can handle consumer real estate closings.
